Gulf Coast Syndrome

What is Gulf Coast Syndrome, and Who Might Have It

You can get a ton of detailed information about gulf coast syndrome here. Basically, tons of people who live or work near the coast have become sick with gulf coast syndrome because of dispersants and chemicals from the crude oil BP spewed all over the gulf. The symptoms may seem like something else at first, so if you’ve been sick for a while it’s important to consider that you might have gulf coast syndrome.

Even if you haven’t been to the water, or you have a child who has never worked near or been to the beach, they could still have gulf coast syndrome from breathing in the fumes that traveled all the way from the gulf into the air gulf coast residents breathe.

What Options Do I Have to Deal With Gulf Coast Syndrome

Well first you definitely want to make sure you take care of your medical problems first. Gulf coast syndrome is very serious, and it’s important to confirm that you have it and treat it as soon as possible. You can find a detailed list of doctors who are familiar with the symptoms and treatment for gulf coast syndrome here. Your family doctor might not know how to spot it or what to do about it because not many doctors do.

Once you have figured out that you do have gulf coast syndrome and you’ve started getting treatment, you might want to start thinking about what you can do to make BP pay for all the health care costs you’ve had to pay, and punish them for poisoning you DELIBERATELY to save money.

The good news is that there are already lawsuits started up to get people paid back for all the damage BP did to them, including lawsuits from health problems. The trial to determine if people can file lawsuits against BP and the other companies involved in the oil spill started last Thursday, May 26th. It’s not guaranteed yet, but it doesn’t look good for BP. The evidence that they were willfully negligent and poisoned people on purpose just to save some money is very strong.

How BP Gave You Gulf Coast Syndrome

First, there are some compounds in crude oil that are harmful to breathe in, but that’s not even half of it. They decided to use a dispersant called Corexit, even after the EPA told them to stop, because they wanted to get the oil off of the surface as soon as possible so the news would stop playing footage of it and making them look bad. The problem with Corexit is that it is extremely toxic and causes all kinds of problems in people exposed to it. Most of the health problems people have from gulf coast syndrome are from Corexit.

BP actively prevented its cleanup workers from using respirators and other protective gear that would prevent them from getting gulf coast syndrome while they were using Corexit because they thought it would like bad on the cameras. How does it look when people are spraying stuff into the gulf that is so toxic they have to wear gas masks around it? Not good. Not letting cleanup workers protect themselves doesn’t make Corexit not toxic though, and now many of those cleanup workers have gulf coast syndrome.

But it’s not just the cleanup workers getting gulf coast syndrome. Corexit goes into the atmosphere, along with oil, and travels all the way to the coast where people, including children, breathe it in. People who have never even been to the water, but live near the coast, have been getting gulf coast syndrome because of Corexit spreading everywhere.
